The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alexander Daniel Nii-Noi Adumuah, has said over 3,000 women, youth and persons with disabilities (PWDs) have benefitted from training and direct support to produce mushrooms and its related business under the PROMUSH initiative in the municipality.
Briefing participants at the assembly’s 1st Ordinary Meeting at Adenta, the MCE stated that AdMA had plans to establish a mushroom processing factory that would utilize mushrooms produced by the Promush Centre under the Enable Youth initiative.
According to him, the Fish for Development Project (FIDEP), which aims at promoting urban fish farming had also improved livelihoods in the Adentan municipality.
“The Amrahia Dairy Farm and the Animal Research Institute Dams are currently ready to be used for cage fishing.
The latter has 10 cages installed on them and has been populated with catfish and tilapia. Containers would also be procured for selected PWDs, youth and women in the 12 electoral areas to promote backyard fish farming,” stated the MCE.
He mentioned some achievements of the assembly in the past year including stakeholders and inception meetings, community entry meetings, procurement of office equipment, furniture, canoes and a vehicle.
Mr Alexander Nii-Noi further said the construction of a demonstration centre made up of an administration block, hatchery, nursery and cottage processing centre in the municipality was also progressing steadily.
He assured that the Business Advisory Centre would continue to carry out capacity building activities for SMEs in the Adentan municipality in the area of occupational safety, health and environmental management, technology improvement and beads making, adding that over 374 SMEs, had been trained with some being supported with start-up kits.
The MCE said, the Micro Small Loan Centre (MASLOC) had also been given office space at the Adentan Shopping Mall to facilitate their operations within the Municipality.
The Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA) over the years has pursued various interventions aimed at promoting local economic development.
