The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson has said fishermen will now use canoe identification cards to purchase premix fuel.
The minister, who said this at a stakeholder meeting on the digitization of premix fuel in Accra, disclosed that the fishermen would purchase premix fuel with the card credited with the government’s subsidy amount.
“The Ministry has not invited you to push the idea on you, but rather walk you through the entire process so that you might reap the benefits of the initiative,” she added.
The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mr Moses Anim, on his part, said it has become necessary to introduce automated machinery, especially in an era where technology was reigning.
He encouraged fishermen to take advantage of the initiative since they stand to benefit the most.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development began to digitize the supply and distribution of premix fuel to fishermen to curb the diversion and hoarding of the product.
