The government has engaged Agence Française de Dévelopment (AFD) of France to provide long-term financing for the State Housing Company Limited (SHC) and Tema Development Company Limited (TDC) to roll out more housing units to meet the needs and financial capacity of Ghanaians.
This move reflects the confidence reposed in the SHC following the strides it made in providing affordable houses over the years.
The Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, disclosed this during the commissioning of a newly constructed housing project by the SHC at Adenta.
He noted that the Ministry had developed a framework to subsidise affordable houses by providing land and infrastructural services to make housing affordable to a significant segment of our population.
Mr Asenso Boakye commended the Board of Directors and Management of the company for effectively utilizing their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to provide quality homes for Ghanaians.
He entreated the SHC and all private developers to take advantage of the framework to provide more housing units for Ghanaians.
On his part, the Managing Director of the SHC, Mr Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, commended the staff for working assiduously to push the company to a greater height and pledged the company’s commitment to ensuring that it provided more houses for Ghanaians.
He encouraged prospective house owners to take advantage of SHC projects to acquire quality edifices at affordable rates under flexible payment plans.
“The good thing about these projects is that you have a flexible payment plan. So, you go to the bank and take advantage of their mortgage plans and you have about 25 years to complete payment,” he added.
