The Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr Kodjo Esseim Mensah–Abrampa, has charged Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies (MMDAs) to harness the potentials of the private sector to participate in the African Continental Free Trade Area fully.
Dr Mensah–Abrampa said this at a breakfast meeting organised by the NDPC to discuss the trade guidelines.
The trade guidelines seek to help the MMDAs unlock their potentials and showcase them in African markets.
They will also help deepen the integration of local economies into the regional market, boost their trade performance and capacities for effective participation in AfCFTA.
Dr Mensah–Abrampa said this would enable the Assemblies to enhance the potentials of businesses in their respective areas to raise internal funds for their development projects.
On her part, the United Nations Development Programme Representative in Ghana, Dr Angela Lusigi, said the trade guidelines would help facilitate intra-regional trade and develop the capacities of local industries.
