Mobile Telecommunications Network remains committed to supporting Ghana’s digital agenda and government’s initiatives to drive rural financial inclusion and support for businesses under the ‘Ghana Cares’ initiative, a News Release issued in Accra on May 24, 2021 has stated.
According to the Release, Ralph Mupita, Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President, commended the Government of Ghana on its efforts to digitalize various sectors of the economy.
Mr Mupita, the Release stated, gave the commendation during a courtesy on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, at the Jubilee House as part of activities lined up for his three-day working visit to Ghana.
Ralph Mulita’s visit to Ghana is the third since he assumed office as Group CEO in September 2020, according to the Release.
During his interaction with the Vice President, the Release said, Mr Mupita shared updates on steps MTN had taken to align its strategy with the national agenda to create a shared value. “We are committed to supporting Ghana’s QR code project and other digital initiatives such as the fight against cyber-attacks and the development of Women in ICT.”, Mr Mupita stated, adding that it was MTN’s intention to construct an ICT Hub to commemorate its 25th anniversary celebrations.
Furthermore, the Release said, Mr Mupita also shared updates on MTN Ghana’s commitment to completing its localization drive of 12.5% for Scancom Plc by the end of 2021 and the sale of 30% shares in MobileMoney Limited by January 2022.
In addition, according to the Release, Mr Mupita also shared highlights on discussions with competition and technology partners aimed at improving and expanding network infrastructure in readiness for ACFTA opportunities.
In his remarks, the Release indicated, H.E. Dr. Bawumia commended MTN for its belief in the Ghana market and for expanding its investments over the past 25years, and reiterated his commitment to protecting and supporting MTN’s operations in Ghana, especially its request for spectrum to enhance its operations.
According to the Release, the Group CEO and his team of executives paid similar courtesy calls on other stakeholders to interact and discuss issues of mutual interest.
These stakeholders, the Release said, included H.E. Grace Jeanet Mason, South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of Ghana and Member of MTN Group’s International Advisory Committee, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Ghana’s Minister of Communication and Digitalization, and Ken Ofori Atta, Ghana’s Minister of Finance.
Besides, the Release said, the Group CEO and his team also met Dr Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Commissioner of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Mr Ekow Afedzi, Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE)
According to the Release, Mr Mupita was accompanied by Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, Vice President for West and Central Africa Region (WECA), Samuel Addo, Chief Enterprise Business Officer representing Selorm Adadevoh, Chief Executive Officer and Samuel Koranteng, Chief Corporate Services Officer.
