President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday commissioned 100 Daewoo Zyle Buses procured by InterCity State Transport Company (ISTC) at a cost of US$13 million to argument its fleet of buses and spread its services throughout the country.
The purchase of the coaches, which is a loan facility from the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB), is the largest fleet of buses procured by the InterCity STC in the last 20 years.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo applauded the efforts of InterCity STC, which had been professionally run and profitable driven and urged managers of other state enterprises to emulate the good example of Intercity STC to be profitable and wean themselves off the government’s subversion.
He urged stakeholders in the transport sector to help stop the carnage on the country’s roads as a result of the incessant vehicular accidents due to over speeding.
The CEO of Intercity STC Limited, Nana Akomea on his part, said the company would soon wean itself of the government’s subversion, adding that it was poised to strategically become the leading choice for passenger transport not only in Ghana but also across the sub-region.
President Akufo-Addo after the commissioning ceremony inspected ongoing construction works on the first tier of the Obestebi Lamptey Circle Interchange at Abossey Okai.
