Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, has lauded MTN Ghana’s successes within the past two and a half decades, adding that MTN Ghana deserved commendation for its achievements over the past 25 years.
President Akufo-Addo expressed the hope that many more organizations would be inspired by MTN Ghana’s 25-year journey and successfully emulate its achievements.
According to a News Release issued in Accra on June 4, 2021, President Akufo-Addo made the commendation during the official launch of MTN Ghana’s 25th anniversary at a ceremony in Accra on June 2, 2021.
The anniversary launch, the Release said, was an opportunity to recount the immense contributions of MTN Ghana to the growth of Ghana’s telecommunications and ICT sector.
According to the Release, Customers of MTN Ghana were informed about a number of promotions, including the ‘Good Day promo’, ‘National Promo’ and ‘Top 2,500 customer’s promo’, which had been designed to reward them for their loyalty to the brand over the past 25 years, adding that promotions prizes to be won included, cars, phones, electronic devices, data and airtime.
According to the Release, Mr Selorm Adadevoh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, used the occasion to express his appreciation to all those who had contributed to the success of the business. “We are deeply humbled and recognize that this achievement has only been possible with the support and contributions of so many before us, who have toiled and built the foundations upon which we stand today.”, he stated.
Mr Adadevoh, the Release said, recognized the role the people of Ghana had played in MTN’s business successes, namely providing the opportunity for service, patronage, feedback and loyalty over the past 25 years.
Whilst recounting the achievements of the company, the Release indicated, the CEO noted that MTN Ghana had impacted the lives of Ghanaians in many ways, including its social interventions in communities around the country through the MTN Ghana Foundation and its financial inclusion efforts.
Mr Adadevoh also used the opportunity to share the future focus of the business, the Release added.
The ceremony, the Release indicated, which was attended by Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications and Digitalization, saw the unveiling of the 25th anniversary logo and a host of activities outlined for the anniversary period.
Also present at the ceremony were Dr Ishmael Yamson, MTN Ghana Board Chairman, Prof. Franklin Manu, MTN Foundation Board Chairman, members of both Boards and Executives of MTN, other Regulators, Partners, Suppliers and the Media, the Release disclosed.
The Release mentioned Madam Grace Jeanette Mason, South African High Commissioner; Hon. George Andah, former Deputy Minister of Communications and a former Executive of MTN Ghana; Mr Joe Anokye, Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA); Dr Ken Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Mr Grant Webber, CEO of the Ghana South Africa Business Chamber as some of the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
Also in attendance, the Release added, were Mr Yoofi Grant, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Center; Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications and some members of the committee; Rev. Daniel Ogbamey Tetteh, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Mr Ekow Afedzie, Managing Director (MD) of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Richard Ofosu Kyere, Director-General of National Information Technology Agency (NITA) and Mr Kofi Asante, Administrator, Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) .
The others, according to the Release, were Dr Setor Amediku, Head of Payment Systems, Bank of Ghana, Kwame Oppong, Head of Innovation and Fintec Head, Bank of Ghana, Dr Affail Monney, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr Kofi Kapito, CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency, and Tommy Zhou, CEO of Huawei Technologies.
