The Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mr Moses Anim, has advised Ghanaians to take courses in fisheries to curb the trend of foreigners taking up appointments in domestic and industrial fishing vessels.
Mr Anim made the call in Accra at a stakeholder meeting to validate the Marine Fisheries Management Plan (MFMP) for 2022-2026.
He said the success of the fishing industry was largely dependent on a good management policy, adding that the strategic plan for the development of the MFMP must be based on the best scientific information.
He said the validation of the MFMP would pave way for quick strides in the implementation of the fisheries policy.
The MFMP is pursuant to the Fisheries Act 2002 (Act 625) section 42 (1) which mandates the Fisheries Commission to develop a Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) for the conservation of marine resources.
