The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MoTAC) has secured 40 million dollars from the World Bank to develop the tourism sector.

Part of the money will be used to improve infrastructure and develop tourist and heritage sites.

Dr Ibrahim Awal, the Minister for MoTAC, who disclosed this at a management meeting in Accra, said part of the money would also be used to rehabilitate old tourist monuments such as Christianborg Castle and museums.

“The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and all heritage sites that are in deplorable states will be renovated to increase the number of tourists’ centres,” he said

He said the investment was expected to create about 250,000 jobs in the tourism sector.

He hinted that the Accra Museum has been fully renovated and would be opened to the public in April 2022.

He said the government was monitoring the trend of COVID-19 cases globally to allow it to ease restrictions on beaches and tourist sites.
