The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Shani Alhassan Shaibu, last Friday received 90 motorbikes to promote effective monitoring and evaluation of government projects in eight districts in the region.
The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development donated the motorbikes to the region.
Presenting the motorbikes on behalf of the Ministry, the Tamale Zonal Coordinator of the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, Mr Samuel K. Forson, said the bikes are given to ensure successful implementation of the SOCO project.
The beneficiary MMDAs are Tamale Metro, Yendi, Nanumba North, Karaga, Saboba, Sagmarigu, Tatale-Sanguli and Gushegu Districts.
It has been realized that conflicts in the Sahel Region have rendered citizens in the northern parts of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo extremely poor.
It is against this backdrop that the World Bank introduced the SOCO project to help bridge the poverty gap between these areas and the southern parts of those countries.
The Ministry of Finance has since received a credit facility of $150 million of the total $450 million from the World Bank for this purpose.
