Ghana needs experts to champion the national development discourse and teachers at the basic and second cycle of education are key in this process, Dr. Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley has said.
Dr. Dasmani made the point when he visited St. Augustine’s Senior High School on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, as part of a tour of the Senior High Schools in the municipality to familiarize himself with the situation in the schools after re-opening to enable the final year students write the exit examines.
He, therefore, appealed to teachers to give out their best to enable the students to move to the next level of the educational ladder and subsequently into the world of work.
He said the responsibility of a teacher was to train the minds of students to enable them not just to climb the academic ladder but to become good citizens in the society.
He urged the students to take their studies seriously as that was the assured way of breaking the chain of poverty in the municipality.
He promised to pay the university fees of two students who would come top in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination.
He advised the teachers and students to strictly adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to stop the virus from spreading on campus and he assured them that the Municipal Education Director would distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to them.
Other schools he visited were Huni-Valley Senior High School and Prestea Secondary Technical School.
