The government is committed to alleviating the plight of Physically Challenged Persons (PWDs) and improve their living conditions, the Agona East District Chief Executive, Mr. Dennis Armah Frimpong has said.
To this end, he said the government has increased the disability common fund from two percent to three percent in other to address the concerns of persons living with disabilities.
Mr. Frimpong made this remark at a ceremony organised by the Agona East District Assembly in the Central Region to support over 20 people living with disabilities to further their education and expand their income-generating activities.
Some beneficiaries received cash assistance to support their education while others received items such as deep freezers and fufu machines to start a business in their communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to consult the Assembly for technical advice if their income-generating activities are facing challenges.
Also, he hinted that the Assembly would periodically monitor the investment of the beneficiaries to ensure its success.
The District President of Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations Mr. Kwame Owusu, assured the Assembly that beneficiaries would make good of use the support they were given.
