The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Seth Kwame Acheampong, has reiterated the government’s commitment to improving key infrastructure to facilitate economic development in the Eastern Region.
Speaking at the 2nd edition of the Town Hall Meetings and Exhibition in Koforidua organised by the Ministry of Information last Tuesday, the Minister stated that several development interventions have been completed and are currently underway since 2017.
He cited the construction of roads, schools, health facilities, education and economic empowerment as efforts made by the government to improve infrastructure and the quality of life in the region.
The Minister stated that the Exhibition provided an opportunity for the public to receive firsthand information on the government’s accomplishments and get feedback from the citizens to strengthen accountability, transparency and democratic governance.
“It’s a great honour to host the 2024 Regional Town Hall Meeting and Exhibition here in Koforidua to showcase the government’s achievements,” he stated.
Mr Acheampong said since the government assumed office in 2017, it has provided over 400 educational infrastructure from Basic to Senior High School.
Significant among them is the establishment of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School at Abomosu in the Atiwa West District and the completion of a TVET school in Akyem Anyinam in the region.
On roads, he noted that the government has completed over 1,859 kilometres of roads in the region.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving transportation to facilitate economic development within the region.
The Minister for Information, Mrs Fatimatu Abubakar, said the Regional Town Hall Meetings and Exhibition are part of the government’s broader agenda of ensuring that citizens are well-informed about initiatives aimed at enhancing their livelihoods.
The minister stated that the meetings served as a platform to bridge the gap between the government and the public, fostering trust and ensuring transparency.
The Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr Alex Ampaabeng noted the government’s success in stabilising the cedi, which had previously experienced volatile fluctuations and achieving a balance of trade surplus, a significant milestone for the country’s economy.
The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, also highlighted government efforts at turning the country into a holistic medical hub through the expansion of health facilities.
He announced that 50% of the Agenda 111 hospitals are set to be completed and handed over soon.
