The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei- Mensah, has called on the Ghanaians to unite to engender the needed strength required to address the challenges that face the country.
He made the call at the 66th Independence Day Anniversary, on the theme, ‘Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose’ which took place at Jubilee Park, Kumasi.
According to the Minister, despite the challenges that the whole world is facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has introduced several policies and programmes such as Planting for Food and Jobs; Planting for Export and Rural Development, Rearing for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory, among others aimed at helping to address the fundamental economic challenges.
The Regional Minister said even amid the challenges, the Ashanti Region has received an appreciable number of development projects since 2017. Some of the projects are the Kumasi International Airport, the Boankra Inland Port, TVET, STEM and Creative Art Schools, health facilities, a residential accommodation complex for Court of Appeal Judges and the Kejetia/ Central Market Phase II, among others.
Mr Simon Osei-Mensah indicated that the ARCC and MMDAs in the Region in 2018 started an initiative to clean and green the Region, which has been rebranded after partnering with Zoomlion under the name Sustainable Cleaning, Greening and Beautification of Ashanti Region.
The event, a joint celebration of the seven Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) in the Greater Kumasi, was attended by all the seven Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executives and all heads of the security services and heads of department.
The representative of the Asantehene, Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, chaired the occasion.
