The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD) has trained 60 Assembly Members development in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to deepen their knowledge of governance and development.
The two-day training, organised in collaboration between the Ministry and the Institute of Local Government Studies, was to empower the Assembly Members to contribute to development in their electoral areas and make them more effective in decision-making.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Coordinating Director of the KMA, Mr Francis Dwira-Darko, said it was necessary to equip members with the knowledge and skills to execute their mandate effectively.
Mr Dwira-Darko entreated the Assembly Members to uphold the principles of integrity, transparency and accountability.
The facilitator of the training, Mr Oppong Mensah, former Chief Director of MLGDRD, took the participants through Local Government Laws, Model Standing Orders, Revenue Mobilisation, Job Creation, Leadership Ethics and Transparency, among others.
