The Mayor of Tamale, Mr Sule Salifu, has lauded the French government for funding development projects in the Metropolis.
One such project is a police station built in Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.
Other development initiatives, such as market stores at the Tamale Aboabo market and storm drains at Gumani, were also funded by the French government.
The Mayor disclosed this when the French Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jules-Armand Aniambossou, called on him in Tamale.
Mr Salifu underscored the need to promote the study of French in the Metropolis, saying it was necessary because Tamale is the gateway to neighbouring francophone countries – Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.
He appealed to the Ambassador to adopt one basic school in the Tamale to serve as a launch pad for the promotion of the study of French in the Metropolis.
He was optimistic that in the next ten years, French speaking in the Metropolis would appreciate significantly to engender a lot more trade relations.
The Ambassador, H.E. Jules-Armand Aniambossou, promised to work with the city authorities and traditional leaders to promote development in the Tamale Metropolis.
