Health professionals are at the centre of every health system, and their work is central to achieving universal health coverage.
In light of this, the Ministry of Health and the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) launched Global Health Workforce Programme in Ghana.
The Global Health Workforce Programme (GHWP), funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), aims to develop the health workforce in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria by supporting them to build stronger and more resilient health systems for post-pandemic recovery.
The Chief Executive Officer of THET, Mr Ben Simms, said the programme would provide significant funding to support skill exchange between Ghanaian and UK-based health professionals.
He said the programme would make a valuable contribution to strengthening the health workforce in Ghana and was happy that the Ministry of Health supported in making the programme a reality.
The Director of Human Resources of MoH, Dr Kwesi Asabir, noted that a collaboration between developed and developing countries would help facilitate and improve the number and quality of health professionals.
The Country Representative of the World Health Organisation, Prof. Francis Chisaka Kasolo, indicated that the policy aligns with Ghana’s Roadmap for UHC, the health Sector Medium Sector Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3); to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.
