The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) has handed over five health facilities in the Volta and Oti Regions to the Ghana Health Service.
The facilities include the Kpeve Health Centre in the Afadzato South District and the Fadome CHPS compound and staff accommodation in Hohoe Municipality, all in the Volta Region.
The rest are the Grubi Health Centre and staff accommodation in the Krachi Nchumuru District, the Amewoyikope CHPS compound and staff accommodation and the Ngawoe CHPS compound in the Krachi Nchumuru District in the Oti Regions.
Commissioning the projects, the Deputy Minister for Health, Mr Mahama Asei Seini, said KOFIH has supported the Ministry of Health in the areas of Maternal, Newborn and Child Healthcare, Health Insurance Policy Cooperation, Biomedical Engineering, short to medium term Invitational Training for Ghanaian Health Officials in Korea and other need-based support to the health sector.
All those interventions, according to him, fall in line with the government’s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He disclosed that over the last 11 years, KOFIH’s investment has grown from US$340,000 annually to over US$1,500,000 annually, adding that these investments have been impactful.
The Volta Regional Director of Health, Dr Chrysantus Kubio, stated that KOFIH has heavily invested in the primary health care system of the two intervention districts in the region, which led to a major policy influence in Ghana called the Networks of Practice.
He said those interventions have improved health service indicators in the region.
The Oti Regional Director of Health, Dr Osei Kuffour Afreh, said KOFIH operates in four districts in the region and was happy it had agreed to extend its activities to three more districts.
The Country Representative of KOFIH, Mr Bomin Yang, said the investments made so far were an expression of his country’s shared commitment to improving healthcare services for the people of Ghana.
