The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will end the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) on Sunday, 8th August 2021.
Prof Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician and Chief Census Officer, who disclosed this at an update on the 2021 PHC in Accra, said the enumeration had been completed in 264 statistical districts out of the 272 demarcated for the census, adding that a mop-up exercise was currently ongoing in eight districts.
He said the enumeration in the eight districts had not reached 95 per cent, a threshold set for the exercise.
Prof Annim said the statistical districts, all located in the Greater Accra Region, are Ga West, Kpone Katamanso, Ga North, Adentan Municipal, La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal, Ga East, Tema West, and Ledzokuku.
On reason for not reaching the 95 per cent threshold, he attributed it to apathy and the inability of census officials to gain access to some gated households.
He added that the population of some of these districts had multiplied over a short period; therefore, census officials needed extra time to cover all.
Prof Annim said, aside from the enumeration in these eight districts, census officials were undertaking household validation, quality assurance spot checks and correcting errors in all the census districts across the country.
He added that the census officers would be wearing jackets branded with the 2021 PHC and GSS logos and carrying photo IDs and a letter of introduction for the mop-up period.
Prof Annim urged all persons living in Ghana who have not been counted to call the toll-free number, 0800-426-426.
