The Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has announced that about 2,000 beds will be added to the health facilities in the Ashanti Region by January 2025.
He made the announcement at the commissioning of two new hospitals in Fomena and Kumawu by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr Okoe Boye highlighted the government’s efforts to complete healthcare projects nationwide.
He noted that the Fomena and Kumawu hospitals, each with 120 beds, were part of a larger initiative to improve healthcare infrastructure.
“These projects faced challenges between 2012 and 2015 but under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, we provided the resources needed to complete them,” he stated.
The Minister outlined several ongoing healthcare projects at various stages of completion, emphasising that many of these were at only 20 per cent completion points when the current administration took office in January 2017.
“The President didn’t abandon these projects. Instead, he worked to finish them,” the Minister added.
The hospital will provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to their respective districts and surrounding areas.
Dr Okoe Boye also mentioned upcoming hospital commissioning in Elubo, Mpohor, Bogoso, Nsuaem, and Wassa Akropong, as well as a public health facility in Akontonbra and the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua.
