The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah, has hosted the 2022 winners of Ghana Science and Technical Explorer Prize (GSTEP) challenge on Monday at his office in Kumasi.
The team of six female pupils from the Uaddara Basic School of the 4 Garrison Education Unit in Kumasi, constructed an Illuminated Child Road Safety Device (I.C-RSD), made up of a racket form stop sign, siren and safety reflectors with dustbins to assist school children cross the road safely.
The team, which is nick named the “Genius Six,” was led by Lt Col. Z.B.V. Akatey.
Mr Osei Mensah said the innovative project was a spot on as it runs on solar energy thus making it more reliable. He indicated that whiles helping pupils to safely cross roads, the dustbin affixed to the service would be a game changer in instilling good health practice and promoting good waste management among school children.
He commended them for making the region proud and encouraged them to do more.
