The government is working with the World Bank officials to clear solid waste off the Odaw Drain in Accra.
The project, which involves installing a Flood Early Warning System to prevent flooding in the Odaw area, would cost the government over $200 million.
The Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, who disclosed this at the Parliament, said the government has already invested GH₵450 million in preventing flooding in the country.
He said the amount was far above what the previous government spent to control flooding between 2011 – 2016 (GHC88 million).
He said flood control should be a concern of all Ghanaians to save lives and properties.
He, therefore, advised Ghanaians to desist from disposing solid waste into storm drains.
