A video circulating on social media claiming that the government has piled up cash in Brazil for next year’s general elections has been confirmed as false by Ghanatoday.gov.gh.

Ghanatoday.gov.gh can confirm that it is a doctored video overlayed with a twi voiceover to create a false impression.

The video falsely suggests that the Government has accumulated funds in Brazil for use in the upcoming general elections in Ghana.

Upon closer examination, it is evident that the video’s creator misleadingly used the backdrop of ‘Operation Car Wash’ in Brazil, a significant anti-corruption effort, to fabricate a story that had no basis in reality.

This misinformation aims to deceive the public and create unwarranted concern.

Operation Car Wash’ (Lava Jato in Portuguese) was a massive anti-corruption investigation that began in Brazil in 2014.
It uncovered widespread corruption involving politicians and business leaders and led to the prosecution of numerous high-profile individuals.

Ghanatoday.gov.gh encourages responsible sharing of information on social media and urges the public to exercise caution when encountering sensational or unverified content. False information can have a detrimental impact on public discourse and trust in institutions.

It is essential for citizens to rely on credible sources of information and exercise critical thinking when evaluating claims made on social media platforms.
