The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has trained 150 caterers on the use of innovative tools under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
The event was held under the theme, “Celebrating Women and Empowering Communities Through Innovative Digital Tools for the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.”
The training programme, which was organised with support from the African Union Development Agency – AUDA NEPAD, forms part of initiatives to strengthen their abilities in locally produced food for the school feeding programme, provide them with cutting-edge digital tools to enhance their digital competence and foster their leadership abilities.
The Deputy Minister for the sector, Madam Francisca Oteng Mensah, commended the caterers for the efforts they are making in providing pupils with meals since the programme’s inception.
She also expressed gratitude for the technical and financial help provided by development partners, adding that the government would keep making investments and ensuring that pupils were given a healthy and balanced diet.
Madam Oteng Mensah charged the caterers to replicate lessons learnt during the training to continue providing quality and nutritional meals to all deserving pupils.
The caterers were trained on how to prepare and upgrade the quality of healthy meals for pupils using meal planning software, specifically intended for schools, keep items in season and make the most of locally produced foods.
The basic concept of GSFP is to provide pupils in public primary schools in the poorest areas with one hot nutritious meal on every school-going day, using locally grown foodstuffs.
