Ghana is hosting the 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meetings of the African Union (AU) from July 18th to 21st, 2024.
This significant event marks a return of the African Union to Ghana after a 17-year break, recalling the 2007 AU Summit hosted under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kuffuor.
The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Mr Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong stated that the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of States and Government of the African Union, held from 17th to 18th February 2024 in Addis Ababa, approved for the Republic of Ghana to host the African Union (AU) Mid-Year Meetings in July 2024.
“A National Planning Committee was formed in April 2024 to ensure the seamless organisation of this high-profile gathering. The committee has been instrumental in coordinating the logistical aspects to guarantee a successful event”, he added.
According to the minister, the Executive Council meeting will last for two days and followed by the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meetings of the African Union (AU) on Sunday 21st July 2024.
Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong said the African Union’s theme for this year is “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, Relevant Learning in Africa.”
“We fervently hope that through this event, the Republic of Ghana would once again demonstrate its commitment to the acceleration of the integration agenda of the continent and also help to promote continental unity,” he added.
