President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed nine persons to constitute the government side of the transition team.
The formation of the transition team is in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
They are the head of the Presidential Staff appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463[Chief of Staff], Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare; the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame; Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu; Minister responsible for Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam and the Minister responsible for the Interior, Henry Quartey.
The rest are the Minister responsible for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul; the Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; the Minister responsible for Local Government, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah and the Minister responsible for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah.
Additionally, in line with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the Team shall include the following individuals: The Head of Civil Service – Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, the Head of the Local Government Service – Dr Nana Ato Arthur, the Secretary to the Cabinet – Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari and National Security Coordinator – Mr Edward Asomani.
These were contained in a press release issued Tuesday by the Presidency.
According to the press statement, the team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team.
“The President has delegated Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act as Co-Chairperson on the Team in the absence of the President.”
“Furthermore, pursuant to Section 5 (1) of the Act, the President has appointed the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council,” the statement said.
It stated that “The Chairperson of the Advisory Council will be the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.”
“The President-elect has, as of earlier this evening, put out a statement announcing the members of his side of the Team.”
“The Team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance.”
The statement said President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition that will strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials.
