All the alleged witches in the witch’s camps in Ghana are to benefit from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
This will enable them to receive some income at the end of the month to maintain themselves, Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has said.
She added that this was also in line with the government’s objective of turning witch camps into safe havens to make the “witches” enjoy live a better life.
Mrs Morrison disclosed this to the press in Accra on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
According to her, a total of 1,451,656 extremely poor and aged were already benefiting from the LEAP programme, adding that 73 percent of these beneficiaries have been enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to lessen their health bills.
She hinted that the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR) has collected comprehensive data on the socio-economic status of households in Upper West and Upper East Regions to assist the Ministry enroll the vulnerable in these regions on government social interventions programmes such as LEAP and NHIS.
