The government has started disbursing social subsidies to eligible households nationwide through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP).
LEAP is a social cash transfer programme for Ghana’s poorest households to alleviate poverty by fostering human capital development and smoothing consumption.
The exercise, which started on Sunday, February 5, 2023, includes 344,389 beneficiary households.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has formed teams and assigned them to carry out the monitoring exercise and compile data on various indicators to track programme performances, track payments and interact with beneficiaries to evaluate the impact of the program in their lives.
The amount paid to a household is determined by the number of eligible household members. The category of persons who make a household eligible is orphan and vulnerable children, elderly- 65years+ without support, persons with severe disabilities who cannot work and pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
One eligible member household will receive GH¢ 64.00, two eligible member households will receive double GH¢ 76.00,
Three eligible members will receive double GH¢ 88.00, while households with four and more eligible members will receive double GH¢106.00.
All eligible households would get double the usual bimonthly cash stipend due to the joint cycles.
