The government has commended the security agencies for acting swiftly to foil the attempts by the secessionist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation, to attack national installations such as the Akosombo Dam and the Adomi Bridge.
The Minister of Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Accra said the security agencies acted swiftly on intelligence to quell the attacks by the secessionist group.
He said the failure of the attacks frustrated the group to direct their attention to blocking all the major entrances to the Volta Region on Friday, September 25, 2020, including Juapong–Accra and Sogakope–Accra main roads.
He refuted allegations that there was an intelligence failure, adding that the security agencies had prior intelligence of what the group wanted to do including their intention to blow up and burn down a market.
“The first response by the security agencies was an analysis of the intelligence to stop the attacks and when the attacks were stopped the group had no option than to block these roads. The intelligence agencies did a good job. They took action to prevent the most devastating aspects of the group’s attacks,” he said.
