The government has launched the Ghana Music Xperience (GMX) app, a premier music streaming platform developed by Ghanaians for Ghanaians.
The app brings together an exclusive collection of the finest Ghanaian music, aiming to revolutionise the country’s music landscape.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, described GMX as a revolution in Ghana’s music landscape, highlighting its potential to enhance the nation’s cultural presence.
“In Ghana, music is our heartbeat, a means through which we share our stories, traditions and unity. The launch of GMX is a celebration of our media heritage and aligns with the government’s mission to promote the creative arts,” he stated.
The Minister emphasised that platforms like GMX were important for showcasing Ghanaian culture to the world, attracting global audiences and boosting tourism.
He reiterated that GMX was more than just a music streaming service, it celebrates Ghana’s rich musical heritage, diverse genres and the creative talents of local artists.
Mr Mercer underscored the importance of the platform, noting that it addresses critical issues facing the creative industry, including the needs of composers, arrangers, publishers and executive producers.
He expressed hope that as the app is integrated into the economy, it will become a key pillar of transformation for Ghana.
The CEO of GMX, Mr Ato Eduenu Tandoh, remarked that the platform was designed to reconnect Ghanaians with their musical heritage.
“Our goal is to provide an experience that allows people to connect deeply with the music they love while introducing them to new sounds, artists, and facets of our history,” he explained.
Mr Tandoh called on private entities and investors to support GMX’s mission, emphasising the importance of collaboration in fostering Ghana’s music industry.
“This is more than just a streaming service, it is a movement for Ghana’s music industry,” he stated, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture for its partnership in launching GMX.
The music streaming platform is part of a broader strategy to protect artists’ work from piracy, allowing them to benefit from their creations. Available on both iOS and Android, GMX aspires to be a digital gateway for Ghanaian music, expanding its reach and helping local talent gain international recognition.
