The Minister for Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has commended the staff of the Ministry of Information and the Information Services Department for their commitment to work.
He said it was due to the commitment and hard work that led to the ministry being named among the top ten vibrant ministries in a survey conducted by the University of Ghana.
The Minister said this when he addressed members of staff at a durbar in Accra on Thursday. The durbar was to discuss the progress the Ministry and Department had made, reflect on issues bothering staff and how best to work towards achieving the 2019 target.
Mr Nkrumah said the staff of both the ministry and the department would be given training to make them not just efficient but effective in the delivery of their work, adding that 52 members of staff have already received training in report writing and customer service.
He said efforts were also being made to transform the Information Services Department to meet the current communication trends, adding that the Department had submitted a budget and waiting for it to be approved for the transformation to start.
He stated that plans were afoot to resource the Research unit of the Department to enhance its performance as the unit is well placed to collate public reactions, situation reports and conduct research across all 216 districts.
With the Right To Information coming into force, Mr Nkrumah said a new Division to be known as RTI Division, would be created to handle the various RTI offices that would be established at the Ministries, Departments and Agencies and at Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
