The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has carried out a series of activities to reduce congestion in the Central Business District and to ensure that the city is conducive for investment.
Some of the activities include a sanitation management programme and an integrated waste management and collection system.
Mayor of Kumasi, Mr Samuel Pyne, who announced this when he addressed the KMA, stated that the Assembly launched an inter-school waste segregation and recycling challenge among five primary schools selected from the five sub-metros of KMA as part of the Holistic Reinforcement for Sustainable Development (HORESD) project.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in partnership with Mancomunitat de la Ribra Alta (MANRA) of Spain and the City-County of Praia (CMP) of Cape Verde, implemented the Holistic Reinforcement for Sustainable Development (HORESD) project to enhance public policies and services, with a specific focus on “Integrated Management of Urban Solid Waste and Circular Economy.”
The project has procured 16 tons capacity waste compaction trucks, 6 tons capacity waste compaction trucks, 1 meter-cube waste containers, 240-litre household waste containers and 120-litre household waste containers, funded by the European Union at EUR 2,500,000.00.
Mr Samuel Pyne also urged the Assembly Members and other stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to build a city of prospects for today and future generations.
