The Government through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) will commence the nationwide disbursement of the social cash grant of the 83rd and 84th cycles to the households benefiting from the LEAP Programme on the 19 of June 2023.
In a press release signed by the Minister for MoGCSP, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu stated the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) amount paid to a household is determined by the number of eligible persons in a household.
The category of persons who determine the eligibility of a household are orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), elderly (65 years+) without support, persons with severe disabilities who cannot work and extremely poor pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
One eligible household member will now receive GHȻ128 instead of the previous GHȻ64 due to the 100% increase in the bi-monthly cash grant. Two eligible household will receive GHȻ152 instead of GHȻ76, three households will receive GHȻ176 instead of GHȻ88 and four or more households will now receive GHȻ212 instead of GHȻ106.
According to the press release, government has released GHȻ109,031,160 for the payment of the cash grant to about 350,000 households for the for 83rd and 84th cycles which make up over 1.5 million individuals who are benefiting from the LEAP Programme.
The Minister made a call on all stakeholders in the LEAP payment chain: the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, the LEAP Community Focal Persons, the Payment Service Provider (the inter-bank payment and settlement system) as well as the participating Financial Institution to put in their best to ensure that the payment is successful.
