President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region on Monday broke ground for the construction of a 64-kilometer Ashaiman—Akosombo road.
The €256 million road project, which is expected to be completed in 30 months, involves the construction of a two-lane dual carriageway and two-lane services roads from Ashaiman to Sebrepor.
Additionally, a two-lane dual carriageway from Sebrepor to Afienya, a two-lane dual carriageway from Afienya to Kpong, and a two-lane single carriageway from Kpong to Atimpoku will be constructed.
The contractor, INZAG GmbH of the Federal Republic of Germany, told President Akufo-Addo that three bridges, a flyover at Ashaiman, an interchange at Asutuare and 11 footbridges would be constructed at various locations along the stretch.
The President also inspected ongoing construction works on the 26.5km Accra-Nungua-Tema road.
The first lot of 16 kilometres begins from the Independence Arch to Nungua, while the second lot of 10.6 kilometres continues from Nungua and ends at Tema Community 3.
There will also be a three-tier interchange at the Nungua barrier to address congestion problems road users experiences daily.
Once completed, this road will serve as the primary link and gives access to communities such as Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Sakumono and the Tema Harbour.
