The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called for strong collaboration between the United Nations, African Union and the Regional Economic Communities especially ECOWAS to curtail activities of terrorism and violence in the Sahel and West African Communities.
He made this assertion when he presided over a high- level debate of the United Nations Security Council under the theme “Counter- Terrorism in Africa- An imperative for peace, security and development” at the UN Headquarters yesterday.
He bemoaned the deteriorating situation of violence extremism and terrorism across the Sahel and West African regions which has claimed many lives and rendered others homeless, and requested for immediate action from organizations such as United Nations, AU, etc. to help fight terrorism and violence.
In order to combat violent extremism and terrorism, he urged the Council to take into account a predictable and sustainable financing of African-led operations.
The Council members took turns urging peace throughout West Africa and the Sahel, and pledged their sustained support for initiatives towards peace.
