President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said teachers are essential contributors to the nation’s human resource development.
The President commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for partnering with the government to implement the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Policy.
President Akufo-Addo gave the commendation on Thursday when the executive of the GNAT called on him at the Jubilee House to congratulate him on his re-election as President.
He commended GNAT’s decision to acquire the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre and pledged the government’s support to initiate a tax waiver on the Centre’s equipment when they arrived in the country.
The President of the GNAT, Phillipa Larson, had informed the President of GNAT’s intention to fully acquire the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre to treat cancer and asked for tax waivers on equipment that would be imported.
The newly acquired property, situated at Ashalley Botwe, would be developed into a four-storey structure for patient accommodation, a staff bungalow, and a host of other equipment.
The GNAT President also informed President Akufo-Addo of the association’s plans to set up an Institute for Research and Industrial Relations Studies at Abankro in Ejusu in the Asante region
