President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a $47.5 million Nalerigu Water Supply Project, constructed under the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project.
The Project, which covers four Municipal and District Assemblies — West Mamprusi, East Mamprusi and Chereponi in the North East Region and Saboba in the Northern Region — will supply water to about 106,842 people.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, President Akufo-Addo said the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project is implemented in 11 and financed by a $47.5 million credit facility from the World Bank.
He said “As co-Chair of the Group of Eminent Advocates for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, I am glad that the completion of this project will go towards the realisation of SDG No.6 — ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”
He advised residents of Nalerigu and the beneficiary communities, to stop galamsey, sand winning and farming along river banks, in other to ensure the longevity of the water treatment plant.
This, the President indicated, would guarantee them improved, quality and reliable water supply and prevent water-borne diseases, such as guinea worm, cholera and dysentery.
