President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, commissioned the Salaga Water Supply Project and a newly constructed Astroturf football pitch in Salaga in the Savannah Region.
In his working visit to Salaga in 2017, the Chiefs told President Akufo-Addo that the demand for water by residents of the area outstripped water supplied by the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL).
As a result, the President directed the GWCL to upgrade the existing water supply systems constructed in 1962 to increase water supply to meet the demand of the people.
The project, which costs some GH¢13,906,629, can supply 20,000 gallons of water a day to residents.
In a related development, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Salaga Astroturf football pitch, which commenced in 2018 by the then Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development.
Constructed at GH¢1.9 million, the astroturf pitch in Salaga, like those constructed in Madina, Bolgatanga, Kyebi, Walewale, Bolgatanga, and Yeji, is to help promote sports and sports development in the Municipality.
The President admonished the youth to make good use of the facility and called on the Municipal Assembly to undertake routine maintenance of the pitch to ensure its longevity.
In Salaga, President Akufo-Addo also inspected ongoing work on the 71-kilometre Bunjai to Fufulso road, which connects Bunjai to Yapei through Tuluwe and Kusawgu to Fulfulso.
Upon completion, the road will help ensure connectivity between the Eastern and Western parts of the Savannah Region, without commuters having to use Tamale in the Northern Region, and reduce the travel distance between Damongo and Salaga 60-kilometres.
The project started on 27th February 2020 and expected to be completed on 25th August 2023.
