Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo has commended the Volta River Authority (VRA) for maintaining its position as the premium power generator in the country for the past sixty years.
He said for the past six decades the VRA has provided an efficient and reliable power supply for Ghana and some neighbouring countries.
He added that the operational capacity and engineering practices of the VRA have since remained resilient from the day of its inception to date, saying the management style of the company is first class because it follows best industry practices.
He said the culture of excellence in engineering practices demonstrated by the VRA should be emulated by other public institutions in the country as the company operates with a private-sector mindset which has made it efficient.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo made this recommendation at the launch of the 60th Anniversary of the VRA in Accra, on the theme: Celebrating 60 years in the Power Business; our Legacy; our Future.
He said the VRA has contributed to the growth of Ghana’s economy through the provision of energy to power the industries in the country.
However, he charged the management and staff of VRA to consider adopting new technologies in the power supply processes to further improve their services.
On his part, the Chief Executive of VRA, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, said VRA was considering diversifying power generation to include renewable energy such as solar, wind and biomass to beef up its power generation.
The launch is the beginning of a series of activities to commemorate the Authority’s 60th anniversary which falls on April 26, 2021.
