The merger of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers will lead to the formalisation of the economy.
The Executive Secretary of the NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, who disclosed this in an interaction with the media in Accra, said the National ID number would also become the National Health Insurance number and it would be linked to all Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards, bank accounts, Birth and Death Registry, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and passport.
He said this would synchronise all the national IDs to enable easy identification, ensure a smooth transaction and prevent fraud.
He added that this would make processing transactions such as pensions smooth because the applicant identity would not be doubted.
He hinted that NIA exceeded its target by over four percent in the first quarter of 2020, adding that over 15 million Ghanaians have registered on the Ghana Card.
He said the NIA has issued 13.9 million cards and asked applicants to visit NIA offices in their respective districts to collect their cards.
SSNIT contributors could integrate their data with the NIA’s database system by dialling USSD Code *711*9 # or visit the Trust’s website; www.ssnit.org.gh, to complete the integration process.
