The Minister-designate for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGSCP), Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has urged stakeholders to work together to eliminate child labour in the country.
The Minister said this in Accra at a one-day partnership forum on the elimination of child labour in Ghana.
The forum was to complement the efforts of partners and stakeholders working in the area of child labour to improve records and data.
The minister said the government was advocating for the Child Labour Free Zones through the Integrated Area Base Approach, indicating that when partners within a geographical area agree to work together and in close collaboration with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the partners would be assured that the operational areas were child labour free zones.
She said the ministry would continue to provide leadership including strong government commitment, an existing inter-ministerial framework and active civil society engagement to ensure child labour and a human trafficking-free society.
Madam Abudu called for a collective effort in the area of policy planning and institutional capacity building to catalyze the internal movement against the elimination of the worst forms of child labour.
