Four people who attacked a police team from the Axim Divisional Police Patrol in the Western Region have been arrested.
During a search at the residence of the prime suspect, Kwame Ato Asare Ani who is still on the run, it led to the retrieval of three pump-action shotguns, two machetes, eight cartridges from his unregistered Honda CVR car, two live refilled BB cartridges and one unregistered motorbike.

In a press release by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, it stated that, “All suspects in the reported attack on the patrol team who had been arrested have been put before court and remanded in custody. Efforts are continuing to get the remaining suspects arrested.”

According to the release, while investigations are ongoing to get the remaining suspects, an attention of the Police was drawn to a video footage with one police personnel from the team pleading with members of the gang, while the gang was alleging extortion by the police officers.

“The allegation of extortion has been referred to the Police Professional Standard Bureau (PPSB) for investigation,” it added.

The statement said, an intelligence operation was launched immediately to get the suspects arrested after a report was done on the 9th of March, 2023 by the Axim Divisional Police Patrol Team that a gang seized the magazine of a service rifle together with some mobile phones belonging to police officers.
