President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the people of the Ashanti Region of massive development projects in his second and final year term as President.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday, January 10, 2021, to celebrate the first Akwasidae of the year with the Asantihene, President Akufo-Addo thanked the people for the massive support and votes they gave to the NPP in the December 2020 Presidential and parliamentary elections.
The President said, “I have come to Kumasi firstly to thank Otumfuo and the people of Asanteman for the massive support and votes you gave me and the NPP in the elections and also wish you a Happy New Year. In the four more years you’ll have your share of development but the most important thing is unity.”
With the equally Parliamentary seats garnered by both parties, the NPP and the NDC, President Akufo-Addo said the result meant that Ghanaians had decided that both parties work together for the development of the nation.
“What the elections had thought us is that Ghanaians want NPP and NDC to work together especially in parliament and that is what I want us to do to move the country forward,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
The President implored the people of Ashanti to continue to support him and the NPP to deliver on its vision of developing the nation in freedom.
President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by senior political appointees at the Presidency, party executives and other Presidential staffers to the Akwasidae festival.
The Akwasidae festival is celebrated by the Chiefs and people of Ashanti, as well as Ashantis in the diaspora. The festival is celebrated on a Sunday, once every six weeks.
The celebration marks the seasons and the timings for various agricultural activities in that part of the country.
