Mr Daniel Botwe, Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, has cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to desist from needless and unnecessary confrontations with traditional authorities, Members of Parliament and staff of the Assemblies.
He said fruitful interactions with traditional leaders, community members, politicians and staff of the Assembly would help the MMDCEs understand the needs of the people.
“Interact with the community members to understand their needs for better development in your area,” he emphasized.
Mr Botwe, who was addressing 70 MMDCEs from Bono, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Western North Regions in Sunyani at a three-day refresher course to deepen their knowledge in local government administration, said it is through consultation that the MMDECs could work effectively and efficiently for the communities they served.
He, therefore, urged the MMDCEs to consult the people in their localities and staff of the Assembly at all times to promote popular participation and accountability at the local level.
