The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has organized a Parliamentary Dialogue for parliamentary candidates in the Ayawaso North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The event brought together the incumbent Member of Parliament and National Democratic Congress candidate for Ayawaso North, Mr. Yussif Jajah and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mr. Ibrahim Sannie.
The dialogue forms part of the NCCE’s efforts to enhance constructive engagement between candidates and the electorate by providing a platform for the constituents to question aspiring parliamentary candidates and make informed decisions during the upcoming elections.
In her welcome address on Tuesday in Accra, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, Madam Pearl Addo, pointed out that the NCCE Parliamentary Dialogue aims to facilitate informed decision-making based on the candidates’ visions and policies for the constituency.
She highlighted the essential role of democracy in shaping a nation noting that free, fair, and peaceful elections were the foundation of a thriving democratic system.
Madam Addo urged the electorates to prioritize peace before, during, and after the elections.
“We want to have very peaceful elections to remain one nation, as we have always been. If elections become violent and lives are lost, votes are lost,” she added.
The Senior Information Officer of the Information Services Department, Mr Elliot Yemoh Tetteh, emphasized the NCCE’s foundational role in promoting democracy in Ghana.
He stated, “It is against this backdrop that the NCCE organized this platform for parliamentary candidates in the Ayawaso North Constituency to share their vision and plans with stakeholders, and to explain why they deserve to represent the constituency in Ghana’s Parliament after the December 7, 2024 elections.”
Mr Tetteh urged candidates and their supporters to make the most of the platform, speak on important issues, and respect differing views and contributions.
Both parliamentary candidates for Ayawaso North presented their achievements and development plans during the dialogue.
The incumbent Member of Parliament and NDC candidate, Mr Yussif Jajah, highlighted his contributions to health, education, infrastructure, and employment, emphasising key projects such as a maternity block and two modern theatres at the Mamobi General Hospital, set to be commissioned next week.
He also assured constituents of his commitment to addressing their needs through surveys and targeted development initiatives.
The NPP candidate, Mr. Ibrahim Sannie, outlined his ongoing efforts to improve education, road infrastructure, water, and sanitation.
He further emphasized the impact of the government’s digitalization agenda, citing innovations like the ECG app, which have enhanced convenience for Ghanaians.
