President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo has underscored Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s loyalty, dedication and patriotism rooted in a sense of political allegiance and commitment as the best person to lead Ghana, come 2025.
An emotional attachment that recognises a pre-existing duty to the state or political order, President Akufo-Addo said in opposition, as well as in government, “he has been a model of loyalty, of honesty, of dedication and patriotism.”
Speaking at the launch of the New Patriotic Party manifesto in Takoradi last Sunday, President Akufo-Addo said: “Whatever commitments he has made before you and before the people of Ghana, I can put my hand on my heart and say he will deliver on each one of those commitments you.”
President Akufo-Addo explained that Dr Bawumia has respect and love for the people of Ghana and will work night and day to ensure that “Our country continues on the upward trajectory”.
“I am the best-placed person to give the testimony and the best-placed person to appeal to the people of Ghana to give the stewardship of this country for the next eight years to Dr Bawumia and his running mate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo recalled that 16 years ago, the two met and decided to join their lives together and since then “there’s not one day that I’ve regretted joining my life to his and his to Me.”
The President said the leadership style of Dr Bawumia is exactly what the country needs to take it to the next step of its development.
“If indeed the biggest strategic interest of the 21st century, the development of the digital economy and the unfolding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is what Ghana needs in its development agenda, then, there is only one man in Ghana today that can take us through that fourth industrial revolution, Dr Muhammadu Bawumia is his name.”
President Akufo-Addo also described Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr Bawumia as energetic, focused and hardworking.
As a result of his capacity and dedication to duty, the President said Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh was the person who implemented from the onset the most important flagship programme of his government, the Free Senior High School Policy.
“I had no doubt in my mind that he was the one person who could implement that policy to success. That is why, I confined him to this job. Everybody, everybody in Ghana, can testify to the success with which he implemented the free senior high school policy,” the President stated.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, according to the President, is an achiever. Apart from implementing the Free SHS policy, he has been for the last three and a half years, the Country’s energy minister.
“Not only has he kept the lights on but he has helped us through some very difficult programmes of restructuring our energy debt, the President disclosed.
“We’re talking about these two people, Dr Bawumia and Dr Opoku Prempeh). We’re talking about achievers, people who achieve things in their lives,” President Akufo-Addo emphasised.
Dr Bawumia, according to the President, was on his way to becoming Governor of the Bank of Ghana, having had a brilliant career as a central banker, “until he met me, and I diverted him. But I think at the end of the day, you will agree today that the diversion has been worth it to the country.
