The Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has urged Ghanaians to assist the Electoral Commission to conduct a free and fair election on December 7.
He said it was unpatriotic for a section of the populace to resort to scare-mongering as if this year’s elections would bring the country to her knees.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu gave this advice when he addressed the fourth session of the seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic in Accra.
“Mr Speaker, we have had several elections, sometimes we must admit, we push ourselves a bit to the brink, but Ghana has survived and we must count on the goodwill and good conscience of all of us to do what is right but not to unnecessarily engage in scare-mongering as if the heavens are going to cave in on us,” he admonished.
He said the Electoral Commission has put measures in place to ensure that the electoral process would be transparent and fair to all stakeholders.
He added that the government has also assured the country that it would do everything within the remit of the law to protect the sanctity of the electoral process to ensure peaceful elections.
On his part, the Minority Leader, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, called on Ghanaians to demonstrate to the world that the country’s democracy was the strongest among others in the world and not just in Africa.
