President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has tasked three Ghanaian envoys to jealously safeguard and promote the image and interest of Ghana in their duty post of accreditation.
The President urged the envoys whose duty are—diplomatic, ceremonial and administrative—to be responsible for preserving and promoting the image of the country “whose reputation today, amongst the comity of nations, is regarded as one of the most stable democracies, governed by the rule of law and respect for individual liberties and the principles of democratic accountability.”
The three envoys are Dr Joseph Nii Sai Kwofie-Agoe, High Commissioner to Australia, Mr Damtey Bediako Asare, Ambassador to Ethiopia and Deputy Permanent Representative to the African Union and Mr Samuel Yaw Kumah, Ambassador InSitu.
At a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House to issue to them their Instrument of Appointments, President Akufo-Addo cautioned that “You are the most visible symbol of our country of all your actions, jealously guard our country’s image. I am confident it is a charge you will uphold.”
President Akufo-Addo told them to recall at all times the country’s objective which is a “Ghana beyond Aid” and urged them to exploit the many opportunities for the mutual benefits for the people of Ghana and the respective countries.
To the Ambassador Ethiopia and Deputy permanent representative to the AU, Mr Damtey Bediako Asare, the President said, “the African Union is the foremost Continental organ of the African peoples.
“Ghana is deeply committed to its aims and purposes as the Pan-African vocation of our country right from the days of our independence remains an unshakable attribute of our nation.”
President Akufo-Addo told Mr Bediako Asare that “I expect you to give full support to our permanent representative to the AU and assist her to discharge her duties efficiently and effectively.
And to Mr Samuel Yaw Kumah, Ambassador Institute, you have already distinguished yourself as chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and fully deserve this appointment, which will enhance your status and enable you to interact or even Keel with members of the Diplomatic Corps in Accra.”
Dr Ago on behalf of his colleagues thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them.
He said they were mindful of the huge responsibility placed on them, and pledged that they would play their respective roles in achieving the vision of the President towards the well-being of all Ghanaians.
