Actor and National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) aspiring Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo has claimed that, his success in the recently held NDC primaries was as a result of keeping his hard work from the lenses of Social Media.
According to the ace actor in an interview on Citi TV’s Point of View show, he spoke the language of the delegates and they bought into it. He also revealed that, he living in the constituency for a long time together with his hard work culminated in his victory.
He further made it known that his candidature was not achieved on a silver platter. He stated that, there were some unseen hands in the party that did not want him to contest. He said, some members of his party felt it was not his time to go to parliament to represent the people.
He espoused that some of the reasons he was opposed by some party members were he being an actor and also connected to some groups of people in the party.
He deflected the assertion that he is into politics because of people’s opinions. He said he was clear in his mind that he is doing the right thing. He further added that it was a call from the people to serve them. According to him, Legon which is part of his constituency is dominated by the youth. Hence, the need for a pragmatic approach and a pyouthful candidate to represent the party.
He also said he is into politics to be part of the decision making process because as an actor, he sees what the people go through and going into parliament, he will be able to speak their language to solve their problems.
When asked why he did not contest in Volta Region since it is an easier route to parliament because he is an indegene of the region, he responded that, he wants the challenging route. This he believes that, when he clinches the seat, it will appreciate the votes of the NDC in the 2020 general elections.
John bagged 758 votes while his opponent, Afua Adoboe managed only 99 votes in the NDC primaries to book his ticket for the 2020 general elections.
