The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has promised to construct a new airport and a harbor in Cape Coast, in the Central Region if it wins power in 2020.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, who was speaking at the party’s 2020 Manifesto Launch in Cape Coast, said the Central Region is a hub of tourism in the country and it makes economic sense to construct an airport in the region to reduce travelling time of tourists.
Also, he said Cape Coast, Accra and Kumasi form triangle and that makes it imperative for the government to provide transport infrastructure to connect these cities to facilitate economic activities among them, adding that building an airport in Cape Coast would make it more accessible to improve domestic tourism.
Dr Bawumia hinted that the government would continue the infrastructure projects initiated by previous governments such as the construction of the Eastern railway line, Ghana-Burkina Faso railway line, the Boankora inland port, adding that the government would also construct river port at Bupei and seaport at Atuabo in its second term.
He said the ruling government has delivered 80 percent of its 2016 manifesto promises.
“We have delivered over 300 promises we made in 2016 in the past three years. If you look at the 2016 Manifesto, you will realise that we have achieved 80 percent of our promises,” Dr Bawumia added.
